README.TXT for Norton CleanSweep 2001 (ver 5.0)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for purchasing Norton CleanSweep.

Please review this document in its entirety before you install Norton
CleanSweep or call technical support, as it contains late-breaking
information not contained in the User's Guide and the online help.
====================================================================

If you are also running older versions of Norton products
=========================================================
If you have both this new Norton product installed and any 2000
version Norton product installed on your computer, the
LiveAdvisor button on the menu bar of your 2000 version Norton
product will be removed. As LiveAdvisor is no longer being used for
information delivery, there is no loss of functionality. As was
explained in the final LiveAdvisor messages, Symantec has replaced
the LiveAdvisor delivery mechanism with information on the Symantec
web site (http://www.symantec.com) and product-specific newsletters
(http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/bulletin/index.html). In this way
we can offer information of specific interest to you as quickly as
possible.

========================
There are known issues with Microsoft Windows 2000 if you have
installed Windows 2000 on the same partition as Windows NT4,
Windows 98, or Windows 95 in a dual boot configuration. Microsoft
does not support this configuration. Please refer to this knowledge
base article at Microsoft's web site for more information:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q221/0/61.ASP

Under this configuration, The Norton Safe may not be able to
correctly retrieve files from the Recycle Bin or restore them once
they've been put into The Norton Safe.
=========================
We recommend disabling the Fast and Safe Scheduler prior to
reinstalling or uninstalling CleanSweep.
=========================
We do not recommend that you Install any old versions of CleanSweep
over version 5.0.
=========================
There is a known issue with Microsoft Window's Add New Modem Wizard.
You must shut down the Smart Sweep/Internet Sweep program before
installing (or re-installing) a modem. You can do
this by right-clicking on the icon in the system tray and select
"exit" or "close", or through the CleanSweep options.

Netcom NetComplete and Norton Mobile Essentials will launch the Add
New Modem Wizard if you don't already have a modem installed. Please
contact Symantec Technical support for assistance if needed, rather
than Netcom Technical Support.
=========================
We do not recommend that you use Norton CleanSweep to remove Norton
SystemWorks, or Norton SystemWorks programs. Use Windows Add/Remove
Programs instead.
=========================
We do not recommend that you use Smart Sweep to monitor Norton
AntiVirus. We also do not recommend that you monitor any application
updates that use the LiveUpdate process.
=========================
We do not recommend using Smart Sweep to monitor the installation
of Office 2000 or its component programs, such as Word 2000.
=========================
We do not recommend removing the Microsoft Plus! Pack, Internet
Explorer 4.0, 5.0, or 5.5, or WordPerfect Suite 8.0 with CleanSweep.
=========================
On Windows NT, Smart Sweep may ask you if you would like to monitor
an install more than once. This is because CleanSweep must monitor
16- and 32- bit modules separately, and some application install
programs use both 16- and 32- bit components.
=========================
HPFS (IBM's High Performance File System available on Windows NT) is
not supported by CleanSweep.
=========================
Smart Sweep does not function on SMP (multi-processor)
machines on Windows NT or 2000.
=========================
Some changes are made to CleanSweep's drivemap file when CleanSweep
is exited. If files that you have deleted are still showing up in
one of CleanSweep's finders, exit CleanSweep and restart it.
=========================
Novell's Client 32 and QDFSDRV.SYS conflict with each other to give
the error message KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED when Windows is
starting. To get around this, do not log into the network upon
startup. There is an option on the Windows NT tab of the Novell
Client logon screen that will allow you to log into the workstation
only. You may then map your network drives as you need them once
everything is started. Do not set these connections to be restored
when you login the next time.
=========================
We do not recommend transporting applications between Windows 95/98
and Windows NT/2000.

Also, if you transport applications between Japanese PC
and Japanese NEC machines, the Start Menu shortcuts may be broken
because of the drive letter change of the hard drive on those
systems.
=========================
In some situations, Fast & Safe Cleanup may report space can be freed
even after pressing the Clean Now button. This is due to Windows
preventing Fast & Safe from deleting certain files. This is harmless
and can be ignored.
=========================
Internet Cleanup and Fast & Safe do not detect the Netscape cache
folder when the User folder contains Hi-ASCII characters. Also, if
you run the English version of Netscape on a non-English platform,
you must use an English profile name.
=========================
There may be some DBCS corruption in the "..." (Browse folder)
dialog on some Japanese-language systems. To fix this, you need to
obtain the latest service pack for Windows 98.
=========================
For non-English versions of Windows, you must set your modem's
dialing location to be the same as Windows' Regional setting or
locale. If these settings do not match, the Symantec Live
Registration process will not be invoked during installation, and
the "Register Now" button will not appear in the About Box.
